THE SINS OF THE FATHER

HAVE YOU SEEN A SON PROBING A FATHER?

While it is important to show what the future holds for the people of Oyo State, it is also necessary to examine the past in clear terms and see how it shapes the future. In doing this the name of the incumbent governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi comes to mind.

The assessment of his tenure requires a critical outlook, but it also explains the character of a man who became the first in the state to get a second term as governor.

Some would argue that Ajimobi’s second term proves that the consolidation of Nigeria’s democracy only reflects in the good life enjoyed by the leadership class as the people grow poorer. To others, Ajimobi tries his best but his best is not good enough.

Having been struck by the defeat he suffered in the senatorial election, Ajimobi recoiled as his party’s candidate Bayo Adelabu struggled to prove he was his own man.
“Have you seen a son probing a father,” Adelabu asked Oyo State people?
But Adelabu found himself suffering the “sins of the father”.

How Ajimobi became Bayo Adelabu’s main point would be the reason his party almost disowned him (Ajimobi) to appear different from a governor that oversaw the splitting of his party to maintain his supremacy. Ajimobi rode roughshod on his party and got burnt. Beyond the squabbles that weakened his party, I hear that some people swore to take their pound of flesh because of the manner Ajimobi talks to them.
“Never again,” they agreed .

In the light of this, the Bayo Adelabu campaign was challenged by the perception voters have of Ajimobi. Bayo had to beg to save his head. Just that his appeal did not go too far as he also carried his own baggage.

While this is not an assessment of Ajimobi’s achievement as governor for eight years, it is a reminder that what you say will be used against you in the court of law. However, you reserve the right to remain silent.
