Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Dailies.
1. President Muhammadu Buhari Friday condoled with the family of late Sen. Mustafah Bukar, who died on Wednesday in Abuja. The late Senator represented Katsina North Senatorial District. Buhari who arrived the residence of the late senator at 6:00 pm on Friday, said the deceased was his very close ally who was honest, humble and dedicated.
2. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders in Osun, under the aegis of Ex-PDP Political Office Holders, have condemned the burning of the party’s flags in Osogbo allegedly by Sen. Iyiola Omisore’s supporters. The party, at a news conference in Osogbo on Friday, said they were saddened and disappointed by the action of Omisore, who they accused of supervising the burning of the flags.
3. Ponzi scheme, Mavrodi Mondial Moneybox (MMM), which collapsed over a year ago in some countries, particularly in Nigeria has finally shut down. The Ponzi scheme in a Statement on its official website on Friday said they were shutting down due to the death of the founder, Sergey Mavrodi, who died on March 26, 2018. The statement said it makes no sense to continue since the founder left with his ideology.
4. Barely a week after Kogi State governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello survived a motor accident, his chief of staff, Hon. Edward Onoja and his wife were on Thursday involved in a ghastly car accident. The report says the mishap occurred when Onoja was returning to the state after spending some days with the governor who is recuperating in Abuja. His vehicle was said to have somersaulted severally before falling into a ditch along Abaji-Abuja expressway around 5-6pm. The chief of staff , his wife and a child, were evacuated from the wreckage unconscious and taken to an undisclosed hospital in Abuja.
5. The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has declared 40 of its members missing after an alleged clash with the police and the Nigerian Army personnel in Anambra State on Thursday evening. The group’s spokesman, Emma Powerful, in statement on Friday, said a combined team of police and Army personnel attacked its members who were returning from the burial of one of their members, Odika Esieme Chukwuma at Igbo Ukwu, Anambra State.
6. Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has declared that the state will drag President Muhammadu Buhari to court if he refuses to seek for a second term in 2019.
The governor made this statement during an interactive session with journalists in Abuja, insisting that the APC governors want Buhari to contest.
7. Ex-law maker, Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial district between 2003 and 2007 has announced his intention to contest the 2019 presidential election.
At a media briefing in Abuja on Friday, the Chairman of Campaign Media Committee, Mr. Ibrahim Biu explained that the nation needed to be rescued from the economic stagnation it found itself.
8. The Nigerian Army on Friday said it had arrested a kidnap kingpin, Filani Auta, at Ligari village of Kaduna State. Army Spokesman, Brig.-Gen. Texas Chukwu, made the announcement in a statement. He explained that the kingpin was arrested along with his two sons during a raid by troops following a tip-off.
9. The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, has sued the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed for putting his name in the list of those he claimed looted the nation’s treasury. In the suit filed at the High Court, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Secondus is demanding that the court award to him the sum of N1.5bn being damaged for humiliation, castigation, vilification attack on his person and integrity as a result of the publication.
10. In sports, France senior women national team Friday hammered the Super Falcons of Nigeria 8-0 in an international friendly game played inside the MMArena in Le Mans, France on Friday.
